Canadian artist Kandle has just released the effortlessly beautiful trip-hop track, “Live A Lie.” This downtempo tune is filled with hypnotic and immersive tones that will leave you wanting more.

The song begins with captivating synths that pain a reflective, mellow atmosphere. The fuzzy edges of the synths give off a gorgeous feeling of unease. These sounds heighten the emotional impact of the vocals that introspectively float over the top.

As the song progresses, tension is introduced with moody, raw electric guitar howls. Deep, warm bass pads the song and a slow tempo drum groove pushes the arrangement forward. The meditative feeling builds gorgeously with pulsing tones and a vivid soundscape. As the song reaches the climax of the groove, alluring ear-worm guitar riffs melodically roll over the top.

The music gorgeously builds tension, mystery, and introspection reminiscent of the band Portishead. Kandle’s voice is haunting and emotive. Throughout the track, it is exquisitely surrounded by ethereal backing vocals. The soulful and melancholic delivery brings a real impact to the song’s lyrics.

Live A Lie” serves as a critique of our burnt-out civilization. Kandle’s stirring words highlight the contradictions that make us question “why are we living a lie? What, if anything, is the payoff for paying these bitter dues?” This is a dark and alluring track that is full of melancholic and contemplative tones. “Live A Lie” is the first single off her next album to be released spring 2024.
