Jwalttz - “Circles”

Jwalttz‘s new single, “Circles,” is a refreshing and energetic ball of bedroom pop that captures the essence of the genre at its best… and, for me, it is definitely a warm weather tune. The song starts with clean guitars and backmasking sounds before the drums and bass kick in, propelling the song forward at a lush pace. The synth sounds and the clean guitar licks are the core of the song’s melodic lines, along with the superb vocal. The guitars and synths have a slight tape warping feel to them, adding to the song’s lo-fi charm.

The vocal has a slightly distorted tone that gives the song a great, warm character. The tone of the voice works well with the song’s upbeat tempo. The lyrics are about the timeless theme of love, adding a relatable touch to the track.

The end change in rhythm with heavier guitar tones is a satisfying twist that elevates the song and highlights Jwalttz’s creativity. It is followed by a demo-like bosa nova section before bursting into the last chorus. I really like this element of the song and think that, production-wise, it’s a stroke of genius.

Overall, Jwalttz’s “Circles” is a fantastic example of DIY bedroom pop at its best. The song has a fresh, energetic feel and lo-fi charm. Its catchy melodies and production twists are superb.
