Joseph Bones - “Same Rain”

Atlanta, GA-based singer-songwriter Joseph Bones has returned to us with another gloriously intimate number: “Same Rain.”

If you are not yet familiar with the sound of Joseph Bones, don’t worry– we have a feeling he’ll be everywhere soon. We first became enamored with his craft upon his release of “California’s Gold,” a song that slips into every playlist that we utilize on our daily commutes. And we were very pleased to find a similar, dark and emotive production within “Same Rain.”

The track begins with some rain foley, adding a delicate, lo-fi sheen to the arrangement, which beholds a gently plucked duet of acoustic guitars. And once Joseph Bones’ vocal emerges, “Same Rain” will completely win you over. He has the unique gift of allowing his listeners to believe every single word he delivers, causing us all to hold onto each string of syllables as though it is a lifeline.

It is not long before the arrival of the hook, which also provides the track with some spacious, barebones percussion, as well as the reflective sounds of a banjo. From there, “Same Rain” enters its gradual crescendo, picking up an additional vocal layer along the way, which brings a substantial width to the overall production, especially when combined with the soft, ruminating notes of a piano.

The song’s subject matter also lands within our niche, as “Same Rain” traverses the aftermath of losing a loved one, a topic with which may of us, unfortunately, are familiar. Joseph Bones has promised that this is one of nine songs from his forthcoming LP, recorded at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, NC. Please join us as we impatiently await the rest of the record.
