Jessie Gray – “In Your Arms”
Jersey-born, Nashville-based Jessie Gray has just released the haunting and moody sounds of “In Your Arms,” the latest single from her forthcoming LP.
“In Your Arms” glistens with a thick sheen of reverb, sounding as though it was performed and captured inside an old abandoned cathedral. Sparse hits from the rhythm section punctuate the top of each bar, with an echoing electric guitar intertwined with the ethereal tones of pedal steel. The vibe is simultaneously stadium-worthy and painstakingly intimate all at once.
The vocal performance of Jessie Gray emerges with all the raw, confessional power of Haley Heynderickx and Julia Jacklin, imbuing the arrangement with an Americana-tinged sense of storytelling. Ghostly choral tones line the corners of the production, adding a dramatic depth that invites you to completely lose yourself. “In Your Arms” is unlike anything we’ve heard this year; it’s nestled in the warmth of a love song, but there’s a distinct darkness that grips you, as though it was penned at Whispering Pines.
From start to finish, this near-five-minute work of art will wrap itself around you like a mellifluous boa constrictor—holding you firmly in its gaze while knowing it could easily swallow you whole. “In Your Arms” is available everywhere you get your music, and we could not recommend it more highly.
