Jamws - “Soft”

London-based Jamws has just sent us his latest single, “Soft,” and, though the title implies otherwise, this song is going to hit you pretty hard.

Jamws claims that this is his favorite song that he’s ever written– and with good reason. “Soft” manages to stand with its feet firmly planted in indie rock, but its tenderness is bound to find the ears of fans from many genres. The dream-like quality of the music, for example, is sure to win the interest of pop fans, while the stripped-back vibe and fantastic background “oooohs” will likely earn the trust of folk enthusiasts.

The arrangement is densely populated, ensuring that your ears will find a new favorite element with each listen, and guaranteeing that the listener will remain engaged for the track’s duration. This is something which we cannot emphasize enough– it is often insufficient to simply write a good song; you must have enough occurring within a production to keep your audience from losing interest. “Soft” succeeds here– not only do we remain interested, but we come back for more.

In its four-minute runtime, the song includes a plethora of dynamic shifts, from the soaring falsetto background vocals, to a breakdown that builds into a glorious crescendo of an outro. When all of this is combined, it means that you now have one hell of a song to play in the car on those late-night drives to nowhere. It’s no secret that we favor songs that promote a long look inward and that’s exactly what you’ll find when you press play.

About ‘the track, Jamws adds: “‘Soft’ is me holding myself and saying - ‘I see you, you’re not broken and you deserve love’. The term 'soft' can have negative connotations and make you think of weakness, but being vulnerable takes a lot of strength so I want to wear it with pride.”
