J. Dewveall - “Streets of New York”

J. Dewveall describes himself as “a half-assed Americana singer/songwriter obsessed with existential stuff.” He is native Texan from the Houston region who has spent the last 14 years making Nashville, Tennessee, his home. I would, however, disagree on the ‘half- assed’ after hearing this dark song, “Streets of New York.”

Using elements of blues, gospel, and country, J. Dewveall produced a really stunningly sinister tune. Gritty… The lyrics are delivered with soul, while the music gently swaggers around them. The song tells the tale of a murder and the perpetrator's descent into a state of near madness. Before the music swells to a louder rhythm and fades back to a quieter swagger, there is an intriguing middle section with muffled echoing that helps the plot grow. “Streets of New York” reveals guitars that have been exquisitely recorded and this is a track that is definitely worth a listen.

J. Dewveall adds, “…Streets of New York is a dark tale of murder, rooted in the emotional angst of separating oneself from the faith and beliefs of your youth.” This tale is manifested through the track’s chilling atmosphere and the “maddening lyrics that accompany the main character's descent into chaos. It's perfectly creepy.”
