hunter & wolfe - “Go For It”

Brooklyn-based duo hunter & wolfe first appeared on our blog in June with “Last Time.” And though they insist that most of their vulnerable lyrics are wrapped inside of sarcasm, there is simply no denying how deeply their new one, “Go For It,” will resonate with listeners.

The electronic beat that begins “Go For It” is quite hypnotic, much like the daze in which grief can leave us. And perhaps it’s our own recent, devastating loss that has caused us to use this track as a beacon for the safety of our souls, but it has served as a life raft when we needed one, so we are obliged to share it here for folks who might be in search of the same.

Go For It” casts its line into two oceans of music, folk and pop, with a delicate acoustic guitar playing atop the initial rhythm. Although we typically prefer our folksier songs to be accompanied by more of an organic beat, there’s a vast sense of relatable loneliness that comes along with the idea that this may have been recorded in solitude, the same place in which many of us feel we must face our emotions.

The vocals maintain a very raw delivery, and one of the reasons we first became fans of hunter & wolfe is in the way that they avoid many of the tactics used in modern production– you will not find any heavy processing or autotune here. Instead, you will witness generous helpings of vocal layering, such as doubles and harmonies, and when you couple that with the song’s harrowing lyrics, it makes for one hell of a memorable listening experience.

If you like what you hear, you will be pleased to know that “Go For It” comes from the duo’s newly released LP, I deserve this. Within it, you will find ten additional tracks to appease your ears– perfect for a Monday’s commute:
