Humbird - “Right On”

Minnesota-based Humbird has just released the vintage-tinged indie-folk song “Right On.” The track is a wonderfully stripped-back exploration of love, with prolific, vintage, and melancholic tones.

Right On” is built on the wonderfully weaving sounds of finger-plucked acoustic guitar. Meandering arpeggios create a sense of sway as they permeate a mellow warmth into the arrangement. Drums push the song forward with a relaxed cadence and unfussy groove, heightening the overall reflective mood. A subtle layer of texture is added by a shaker, helping to consolidate the sense of sway. Underneath, a deep and warm bass establishes a solid foundation by binding the elements together.

At the half way point, a musical break is introduced. It is here that some electric piano reflectively explores the track’s melody with a pleasing sense of improvisation. These mellow sounds also further accentuate the authentic vintage vibes, making me want to draw comparisons to Carole King. However, the true star of this delightful show is the emotive vocal of Humbird. Imbued with a sweet sense of soulful sincerity, her captivating performance truly brings the composition to life.

Right On” is the title track from Humbird’s forthcoming album, which releases to the world on April 12th.
