HOL1D4Y – “Autonomatic”

Scott Holiday, aka HOL1D4Y, debuts on the blog with the smouldering, fuzzed out track “Autonomatic.”
There is nothing flowery about this psychedelic rock song; “Autonomatic” is not The Summer of Love. This is a glorious celebration of electric guitar, turned up to 11 and loud enough to deafen an army. That’s right, its prog rock crossed with hard rock. “Autonomatic” is an absolute behemoth of a track, intended to pound those flowers into the dirt. A modern comparison would be a band like Fuzz. This is a sound that harks back to the golden era of acts like Deep Purple, Blue Cheer, High Tide and Led Zeppelin. But within that sound, there’s great melodic sway and sweeping songwriting.
The music can only be described as fun. The centrepiece is the aggressive, muscular sound of the lead electric guitar, intricately weaving its lines through molten riffs. The drums are massive, loose and swinging, hitting you with big, punchy, economical fills… And, of course, there’s that deep, heavy bass, which only heightens the impact.
The vocal is not trippy. This isn’t one of the heavier moments of Tame Impala, nor is it the Leslie speaker sound of The Beatles. This is the sound reminiscent of Cream crossed with a righteous prophet who’s just come out of the scorching heat of the desert preaching his new found clarity. It’s laid-back, seductive and made all the more immersive by the classic, floating male harmonies that soar in at all the right places. This feels like a deep cut from a long-lost vinyl record from that golden era of the 1970s.
“Autonomatic” is a raunchy, blistering blast of earth-shaking guitar work. The track is taken from the forthcoming album Topology slated for release September 25th via Sacred Tongue Recordings and Thirty Tigers.
