Mimi Pretend - “Guys in LA”

Mimi Pretend returns to the blog with her Lana Del Ray energy and Mazzy Star-ness in the sweet sounding dream pop track, “Guys in LA.” This is the final single from her new EP, entitled Sick Eros, which is stamped for a May 12th delivery.

Guys in LA” begins with some busy city street foley before giving us what we came for– that Mimi Pretend vibe. The production opens right up into your ears, immediately beginning with her vocal work, which is top-of-the-line dream pop artistry, as far as we’re concerned, and something we’ve been savoring since we featured her previous release, “I Still Wear Your Ring.”

The entire recording is coated in a thick blanket of reverb, providing a surreal, cinematic soundscape, with the ‘80s-inspired beat furnishing a substantial lift to the refrain. Mimi Pretend goes against the grain of her previous releases– instead of writing about the misery of a broken heart, “it instead rips you off the bathroom floor, wipes away your tears, and sets you off on a road trip with your best friend.” This track is quite possibly the get-yourself-together and move-on-with-your-life anthem that we’ve all been waiting for.

Guys in LA” will definitely get your speakers thumping, so open up your windows, crank it to eleven, and share it with the entire neighborhood.
