Gregory Ackerman – “Lost In You”

Los Angeles-born, Amsterdam-based singer-songwriter Gregory Ackerman has just released “Lost In You,” the latest single from the forthcoming LP Challenger Deep.

Lost In You” is an astute examination of losing one’s identity inside of an intense, destabilizing sense of love. As dark as this theme may be, the accompanying arrangement is an absolute dream. Revolving around a blissfully finger-plucked acoustic guitar riff, the production is dipped in a vintage sheen that lends it an inviting authenticity. Ackerman had us at the press of the play button.

Vintage-tinged notes from the bass and an echoing earworm of a piano melody round out the initial mix, offering an open space for the drums to arrive. With the steady rhythm section in place, Ackerman unveils a vocal performance that is as intimate as the lyrical content. If you can imagine the warm production of Dr. Dog and the raw honesty of Nick Drake, that’s the space “Lost In You” quietly occupies.

A drifting vocal double has been deployed across the refrain, allowing it to wash across the listener like a tide rolling in and out of focus. A string arrangement falls into place as “Lost In You” progresses, alongside additional orchestral elements that add considerable width to an already soaring soundscape. Combined, all of this makes for an enveloping listening experience… one worth returning to every chance you get.

Gregory Ackerman’s new single “Lost In You” is available now on all major streaming platforms. While you await the release of Challenger Deep, you can connect with him here: Website | Bandcamp | Facebook | Spotify | Instagram
