Connor Pledger - “Goodbye Who I Was”

Atlanta-born, Los Angeles-based Connor Pledger appears on the blog via the superbly chill sound waves of his solo debut, “Goodbye Who I Was.”

This song would have earned a spot on our page due to its subject matter alone, as it delves deeply into the immenseness of introspection– easily one our favorite aspects of any music, but especially that of which lands within the realm of folk. Armed primarily with a guitar, Pledger delivers a strong and emotive vocal performance to carry the major weight of the tune. His voice is truly unique, though we can hear the remnants of singers like Hozier, Ray LaMontagne, and even some moments of Chris Cornell beneath the surface. When you couple the song’s mood with his vocal, it makes for a very successful production.

You may be pleasantly surprised to know that Pledger recorded “Goodbye Who I Was” in one take and with very minimal production, especially when the emotion that it beholds sends the track into a glorious and instinctive crescendo. And at the end, once you’ve let the song fully consume you, be sure to send it to your friends and family so that it might consume them as well. It’s very rare that we ever feature a song this sparse in its arrangement, so let that serve as a guarantee that this track is topnotch and the world has not heard the last from Pledger.

Goodbye Who I Was” is the first single from Pledger’s upcoming EP, Helvetica. He adds that “This song is for anyone who is facing big changes in their life and needs some hope and courage to embrace them.” We wholeheartedly agree and we simply cannot wait to hear more!
