Goddamn Wolves - “Nowhere”

Raleigh, North Carolina-based indie rock trio Chris Weilding, Laura McCullough, and Drew Fogalia, aka Goddamn Wolves, have just released the nostalgic, ‘90s-infused track, “Nowhere.”

The song explodes to life upon the press of the play button, filling your ears with a robust arrangement that consists of an upbeat rhythm, bass, and guitar– the three main ingredients to any indie-licious musical dish. The mood is rather cheerful, and though that goes against the grain of our typical brand of dark and melancholic sounds, once you catch an earful of “Nowhere,” you will understand that it was useless for us to try and resist its fervor.

But where Goddamn Wolves have truly won us over is in the vocal department, and fans of Pixies will wholeheartedly agree. The lead vocal duties are shared by Weilding and McCullough, imbuing “Nowhere” with a mesmerizing Black Francis/ Kim Deal juxtaposition that we truly cannot get enough of. And we would be remiss not to mention the wondrous drum fills that Fogalia provides on the hook, resulting in a performance that begs to be experienced live.

In true, indie-rocking fashion, “Nowhere” comes complete with one of the fuzziest guitar solos that we’ve heard so far this year. And it is at this point that the track’s ‘90s flair fully rises to the surface, reminiscent of that classic, alt rock sound that will surely carry listeners back to a time before autotune completely ruined everything. Although we are not planning a trip to Raleigh any time soon, when we do, you can bet your ass it will be when Goddamn Wolves are playing:

April 18 – Neptune’s Parlor – Raleigh, NC
May 03 – Bandito’s – Richmond, VA
May 04 – The Night Rider – Raleigh, NC
July 12 – Slim’s Downtown – Raleigh, NC
