Gillian Grogan - “Breathless and Wired”

From Sonoma County, California, we are delighted to share the raw and sultry sounds of songstress Gillian Grogan and her new release: “Breathless and Wired,”

This savory number begins with Grogan’s intimate and emotional vocal stylings, shortly accompanied by a lone acoustic guitar. We have never tried to hide our adoration for Fiona Apple’s raw craft for penning a tune, and you will be pleased to know that we hear a great deal of that power here, both in performance and overall songwriting. To be clear, we knew that we wanted to feature “Breathless and Wired” as soon as we pressed the play button.

We do not have to wait very long before the arrangement is joined by a ghostly vocal harmony and a bit of bass, providing width and depth to the production, respectively. After listeners spend some time being captivated by Grogan’s falsetto and vibrato, a steady rhythm emerges, reeling with it a glorious layer of reverberating guitar. And although the song ultimately consists of a full-blown band, it never eases up on its enthralling level of intimacy– the track is so raw and honest that it may as well be a private performance.

Apart from the elements already mentioned, additional highlights include the scat vocal at just past the midpoint, cementing our previous Fiona Apple comparison, as well as the enchanting, three-part harmonies that find their place in the final third.  “Breathless and Wired” is dark and gritty as all hell and while we truly wish that we could keep it all to ourselves, it begs to be heard by all lovers of music.
