Genuine Leather - “Even If I Could”

Genuine Leather's latest release, "Even If I Could," is a great synthwave track that blends all the classic retro sounds, but adds a nice modern spin on the presentation.

The song opens with a punchy kick and snare percussion groove, which stays present throughout the duration of the song. I really like this no-frills approach to the rhythm as it allows space for all the other elements. "Even If I Could" is filled with splashes of pulsating synths that add a neon-like atmosphere to the music. The chorus sections gain a real sense of size, with the addition of hi-hat and a throbbing bass, which work together to create satisfying sonic release. The song’s dynamic breaks are also well-placed, adding interest and allowing each new section to have a big impact when they arrive.

The addition of fuzzy guitar near the end of the track is awesome, providing a nice contrast to the digital elements of the song by adding a nice gritty feel. The vocals on "Even If I Could" complement the music perfectly and help to bring a modern touch to the sounds. The reverb effect gives the vocals a blurry quality, but also a nice sense of movement to the song. Genuine Leather have definitely made a banger with "Even If I Could." The production is polished and well thought-out and should satisfy any fan of modern synthwave.
