Gal Musette - “Broken Clock”

Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Gal Musette has completely won us over with “Broken Clock,” a moody morsel of country-tinged noir.
The shimmering and twangy notes from a guitar appear at the track’s outset, with a vintage-imbued rhythm section shortly emerging to add some gentle propulsion to the arrangement. The vibe is immediately dark and brooding, which just so happens to align with our own mercurial tastes.
Musette soon arrives with a vocal performance that ticks our boxes for a Mazzy Star-esque sound, providing listeners with a delicate delivery that is bound to resonate among fans of introspection. The vulnerable verses are wonderfully juxtaposed with the multi-layered vocals on the refrains, filling our ears with an honest portrayal of letting go.
On the back half, the ghostly tones of pedal steel set the production alight before pulling back to reveal a brief break that allows the final hook to naturally crescendo. If you happen to find yourself drawn to the sounds of artists such as Angel Olson, Weyes Blood, or Big Thief, you’re going to fall in love with “Broken Clock.”
