Darién Geep - “Freezing in Summer”

From Germany, Darién Geep have just released the gritty and lush psychedelic track, “Freezing in Summer.”

The song’s rich, contrasting textures make every second of listening a treat. A great groove is established by the rhythm guitar’s chugging, gritty opening. This gives the track a solid psych rock feel. Synthesizer layers are added, lending ambience and melodic lines over the top. Some of the tones in these layers strike me as sour, which enhances the underlying introspective feel of the music. They have a nice, retro vibe.

The laid-back drum beat and pulsating bass, which serve as the song’s backbone, carry “Freezing in Summer” forward. The breezy, psychedelic-tinged guitar solo, which flows grittily over the arrangement, is one of the track’s highlights. A passage of jangly guitars that creates a dreamy and uplifting contrast is provided around the halfway point of the song. This is before they lead us back into the solid groove for the conclusion

The female vocal has a very delicate delivery, which provides a breezy and light contrast to the music’s moodier tones and the contemplative themes within the lyrics. “Freezing in Summer” is a great psych single that is packed full of thoughtful instrumentation and grooves. It is taken from their new EP, Purple & Green, which is out now.
