Thomas Flynn - “On The Earth”

Thomas Flynn’s “On The Earth” is a beautifully crafted song that showcases the power of simplicity. The slow and melodic acoustic guitar line serves as the backbone of the song, and the sparse arrangement allows the listener to fully immerse themselves in the dreamy and reflective mood.

The vocal is reminiscent of John Martyn. specifically on the Solid Air album, with its unique play on vowel sounds and the way it hangs on notes. The way Thomas also makes the words more of a “sound” in certain places reinforces this. The high register and breathy quality of the vocals add to the overall dreamlike quality of the song, creating a sense of intimacy and vulnerability.

The addition of the strings being played on an instrument, possibly a guitar passed the nut, harp, or piano, provides an unusual texture that complements the acoustic guitar perfectly, adding depth and complexity to the song.

On The Earth” is a fragile, yet vivid piece of music and it has instantly made me a fan of Thomas Flynn
