Feardrops - “80s Clowns”

Feardrops is a new musical project from Junks frontman David William Kay and Pet Conspiracy mainstay Edo De Bastiani. Based in Shenzhen, China, Feardrops have brought us a slow burner of an earworm “80s Clowns.”

The song reminds us of Sonic Youth, but without the jangly guitars. A synth riff slowly plays over the entire track, like a melodic dream to a glorious sunset after a long day, with relaxed, pulsating bass adding to the slow groove of the song.

The calm vocal delivers the lyrically psychedelic words laced with potential references to the good old drugs. The imagery it evokes is simply pure. And the video adds to the stoned nature of this beautiful song, the likes of which is reminiscent of Babybird’s “Back Together.”

There is something really beautiful with this song which we cannot put our finger on. Maybe it is the simplicity and the way the layers slowly build into slow epic? Despite being a slow mellow song, it can only be fully enjoyed with the volume on ten.
