Elsder - “Destiny”
From Germany, Elsdeer confidently return to the blog with the luminous “Destiny.”
“Destiny” is a folk-rock song that would appeal to both fans of indie rock and pop rock. The nearest musical comparison I can draw are to the Doves. This is mainly thanks to the psychedelically tinged soundscapes that immersively swirls around this composition. These effects push a folk song that would have just carried a warm authentic punch into something filled with widescreen sonic beauty.
However, Elsdeer aren’t making plays into the realms of a claustrophobic stomp here. “Destiny” is uplifting, positive and euphoric which marks a departure from what the Cheshire lads have churned out across their catalogue.
Over an entrancing, krautrock-esque drum beat, the song rewards with at every turn. Acoustic guitar quietly reinforces the insistent groove, while bursts of shimmering colour are provided by the infectious soul soaring electric guitar motifs. Underneath the bass locks into a hypnotic low pulse. At the very end, the song rings out on a lush, sharp chord that instantly brings to mind the closing chord of “From Me to You” by The Beatles.
For the majority of the song, the vocal performance remains measured and gentle. It prioritises atmosphere with gorgeous sustained lines that move patiently over the groove. Bringing a pleasing sense of catharsis and resolution, it is only at the end does the vocal lifts into the more radiant, illuminating tones that Elsdeer’s lead singer delivers so effortlessly.
