Eliza Edens – “Old Home Video”

From Brooklyn, indie artist Eliza Edens is back with “Old Home Video,” the final single from their upcoming LP Death Drive.

There’s a reason we feature every tune Eliza Edens sends our way, and pressing play is all you need to do in order to understand why. With “Old Home Video,” the quiet strums of acoustic guitar make way for a melancholic piano melody, both so raw that they might as well be playing in the room with you. This is one of the reasons we’ve found ourselves drawn to Edens’ sound: in a world completely saturated by digital manipulation, there are artists who still cling to an authentic craft.

Edens’ vocal performance follows suit, filling our ears with a delivery that eschews the crutch of autotune and, instead, relies on vulnerability and natural instinct. When coupled with the lyrics, “Old Home Video” will remove your heart from your chest, as Edens feeds us lines that recount the painful experience of watching someone you love slip away in pieces, even as they remain physically present in your life. This isn't simply a song about anticipating death; it's about grieving the gradual loss of connection with someone who is still here.

As the song progresses, the arrangement expands to include a gentle rhythm section featuring deep bass and brushed drums. And even as “Old Home Video” grows, adding some lead guitar and perfectly placed vocal layers, it never loses sight of its intimate devastation.

“Old Home Video” is now available everywhere, and we hope that you’ll join us in spinning the hell out of it until the full album is released on October 30th.
