Ed Prosek - “Vertigo”

Berlin-based multi-instrumentalist Ed Prosek last visited our blog with “Hallelujah,” a song he’d written after popping the question. Just over a month later, he’s back with “Vertigo,” another folksy work of art.

Vertigo” begins with a looped, muted acoustical instrument. It could be a banjo or a mandolin, but before we’ve time to discern, the guitar forms chords that become the driving rhythm behind the song. The vibe is one of an uplifting nature, and not as melancholy as the work to which we so often find ourselves drawn. And since this song delves into an unknown future, uplifting is certainly more than acceptable.

A simple beat begins with Prosek’s vocals as he narrates the idea that worrying too much about the future can cause you to lose focus on actually living, but also remaining hopeful about what’s yet to come. Once the production lifts on the refrain, a harmony joins and the result is quite magnificent. We spend so much time blogging about songs that reside in the darkness that we often forget that there’s a positive side to the craft– “Vertigo” is a refreshing reminder of that

If you are in need of a means to feel good about life, Prosek’s voice will definitely raise your spirits with “Vertigo.” It doesn’t try to sugar coat anything for you– it tells you like it is, but it does so in a manner that you cannot help but feel good before listening to it all over again.
