King Cujo / Fire Up The Sun

King Cujo is back with a vengeance! On the cusp of success before the tragic loss of a bandmate, in 2006, they reformed during lockdown and are releasing their first new music in fifteen years. That never-say-die attitude transpires in this first single, “Down Here,” and it appears that the band intends this outing to be more than a footnote in their musical career. The drummer is on a mission, the guitarist is probably wanted by the law for arson, and the vocal performance is intense and passionate and makes you want to break stuff. Okay, so the lyrics were probably written drunk on the back of a Rizla pack, but who cares, the blues breakdown is awesome and the track kicks ass.

More nae one gives a fuckerry from the boys from Fire Up The Sun, I really love these guys, Arcee, the mastermind behind the instrumentals, is always thinking up new ways of making lyricist Mc Burnoot’s distinctive flow stand out. The amount of genre bending that these two get up to is pretty mind boggling and if you haven’t heard it yet, go check out “Party For Your Right To Party.” It’s an insane country stomper and it’s absolutely brilliant.

But back to their new single “Mibbe Think Aboot E.” It has a raging staccato beat with a cheesy synth, the whole proceedings pulsating like a throbbing heart on ecstasy. Burnoots flow is on point and fits perfectly, as always, and his thick Scottish accent is the perfect foil for the Eurotrash vibe of the track. To be honest, I have trouble understanding him on a good day, but with all the head banging this track induces, I have literally no idea what he is on about. No matter– I’m inclined to believe it is pretty awesome. To sum it up, this is the kind of track that belongs on the Trainspotting 3 soundtrack, so someone call Robert Carlyle, let’s get Begbie on board.
