Donovan Keith - “Can’t Catch My Heart”

Midwestern-born, Austin-based singer-songwriter Donovan Keith has just released the retro-infused sounds of “Can’t Catch My Heart.” Pressing play on this number invites you aboard a magic carpet that whisks you away to the warm and soulful land of vintage-steeped Americana.

A distant, gritty and reverberating guitar opens the track, soon joined by the rest of the band. Bass and drums emerge, firmly glued together with that unmistakable and creamy 1970s compression. We will not waste your time by mentioning all the comparisons this song conjures, but please go into this one knowing that you will be flooded with all of your greatest musical memories while simultaneously becoming a fan of something new.

Keith’s vocal arrives with the rest of the robust arrangement, making it immediately obvious that this man was born to not only sing, but to entertain. It does not take long before you begin to imagine this tune blasting from the stage as you sway with the rest of the crowd during its gentle verses, and learn all the words in order to sing along with the hook (be sure to check out his touring schedule to potentially make your daydream a reality).

In a world that has been completely desolated by the overuse of autotune, “Can’t Catch My Heart” stands as a glorious reminder that there is still some wonderful and soulful Americana out there to be discovered. Our only regret is not finding Keith’s music sooner.
