Dogwood Last - “Park Slope”

New York-based Dogwood Last have just released the lush folktronica song, “Park Slope.” The atmospheric track is passionate, expressive, and will leave you wanting more.

Warm analogue tape hiss begins this song, foreshadowing the experimental qualities that make “Park Slope” exquisite. Guitar adds a mellow, relaxed mood as it woozily starts to play. The tones sound like caramel as they gently roll over the arrangement. As the song progresses, forward momentum is gained from electronic percussive noises that remind me of “Thought I Was A Spaceman” by Blur. These percussive noises lend a dream pop and slightly futuristic feel that contrasts gorgeously with the traditional tones of the electric guitar. Descending piano enhances the melancholic reflective mood whilst synth begins to warmly pad underneath.

Just past the halfway point, the mood magically changes from reflective tones to a crescendo of euphoria. Drums help to lift the dynamics and trumpet lends a gorgeous, rousing sentimental layer. The vocals are intimate, soulful, and expressive over the entirety of the track. The emotional feeling behind the performance is palpable. When the musical change occurs, the vocals transform in to an exhilarating and passionate choir. The tones gorgeously soar, heightening the feeling of tension and release.

Dogwood Last have created a truly gorgeous track with “Park Slope.” The song takes you through a journey of mediative tones and uplifting and soaring melodies.
