Dead Professional - “Nobody But Me”

Virginia-born, Philadelphia-based singer-songwriter Dead Professional is back on the blog with his latest single, “Nobody But Me,” a slow-burning, indie-pop journey through a vast, dreamy soundscape.

Soft chords and a gentle electronic beat get this one going, immediately perfect for those late-night car rides to anywhere and nowhere. Vibey guitar ear candy makes its way into the arrangement, as more elements of percussion rise to the surface of the song. It is here where our ears are met with the first glimpse of vocals, wonderfully harmonized as they provide the hook.

Although “Nobody But Me” utilizes many electronically produced sounds, the vocal work keeps it completely grounded within the realm of raw and honest music, which is precisely the reason that you need to hear it. It permeates a divine sense of melancholy that we always seem to be on a mission to find.

As the track rolls on, more layers of guitar are added, providing a rich depth and moody atmosphere. Distant swells of synth also contribute to this aspect, but the constant vocal harmony is where it has completely won us over. There’s something very vulnerable about them that reaches directly into your heart, causing you to press the play button, again and again.

The final third of the song beholds an elevated soundscape, with drums that hit a bit harder and a guitar that sends heightened signals throughout the sonic space. Like many of our favorite tunes, “Nobody But Me” is the perfect soundtrack for those moments when you need to recharge from all the energy it takes to be a human being.
