Danika - “For My Baby”

There is nothing quite like those sweet layers of vocal harmonies that provide such a thick, stereo spread that they fill every available inch of the sonic landscape. If you have yet to hear of Danika Smith, it could be because, as she was rising, she was often providing these layers of vocals for a plethora of well-known artists, including Allysha Joy, Sampa the Great, and Harmony Byrne. However, we have a feeling that you’ll definitely remember Danika after you hear her latest single, “For My Baby.”

Akin to our musical preferences, this track beholds some of the loveliest acoustical finger picking that you’re bound to hear today, but once the vocals begin, layered in all of their harmonious spender, let’s just say that you should really be sitting down for it. Because as you are marveling at Danika’s magnificent voice, you are not given any time to brace yourself against the coming swell of sound, due in part by the rhythm section (provided by Hudson Whitlock and Paul Bender) at about a minute and a half into this masterpiece. That’s about the only spoiler we’re going to give you because the second half of the song lends an entirely different level to experimental vocal work and is actually what sold us on “For My Baby” in the first place. Stop whatever you’re doing and give Danika four minutes and ten seconds of your time.

Danika’s “For My Baby” is now available wherever you get your music.
