Level Head, a review of “Comet”

Level Head hails from the UK and offers their latest single, “Comet,” with confidence and power. For lovers of a catchy, riff-based rock, sweet vocals are the icing on this three-layer cake of drums, bass, and guitar. The track begins with a single guitar, churning out the arena-ready riff that serves as the foundation of the song. When the full band enters, they pound out the riff with functional dynamics, ebbing and flowing as the verse ushers in the chorus. While the music is solid and satisfying, it’s the vocals that take it up a notch. The melody is engaging, building energy with the melodic climb as the chorus approaches. When the chorus hits, it’s exactly what a good rock song sounds like! Singer Maxx Wallace belts, “But you are the sun to my starry eyes and I am the one who cast his shadow wide.” The vocal is bold, but not overbearing and the lyrics are sing-a-long ready while being fresh with the relatable imagery that makes the metaphor potent. When the bridge/middle eight arrives, a breakdown begins with bass and proceeds with rolling toms and guitar scratches, pounding their way toward the obligatory halftime in a wall of sound that’s as effective as a crane kick from Daniel LaRusso. When the final chorus arrives, you’re shouting it too and getting ready to hit that back button to give this rocker another spin!
