Cole Scheifele - “The Weight of Feeling Purpose”
From Denver, CO, singer-songwriter Cole Scheifele is back on the blog with “The Weight of Feeling Purpose,” the third single from his forthcoming EP.
If you are looking for some raw and heartfelt folk music, it truly does not get any more authentic than the work of Scheifele. From the sheer intimate intensity of the acoustic guitar strums, to the barebones production of the vulnerable vocal performance, this guy is the real deal. And it comes as no surprise that he has performed with the likes of Dermot Kennedy, Jade Bird, and Flyte.
“The Weight of Feeling Purpose” is one of those perfectly captured spoonfuls of indie folk that immediately reaches into the nooks and crannies of your forgotten emotions. For most of its duration, the song boasts a sparse arrangement, with delicate hints from a piano and sublime inklings of lead guitar. Around midpoint, the deep tones from a bass emerge, providing weight to the song’s structure, ensuring that the listener remains engaged.
The highlight here, as with most of Scheifele’s work, is his vocal performance. We are thoroughly convinced that he’s cut from the same cloth as fellow Coloradan Gregory Alan Isakov, as they share the same knack for plucking lines of lyrics out the existential, then delivering them in a manner that is rather intoxicating.
