Cloudbelly - “If You Want”

Montague, Massachusetts-based Cloudbelly return to the blog with the beautiful chamber pop track: “If You Want.”

If You Want” is built around a pleasingly complex drum groove that pushes the song forward with an almost staggered, waltzing cadence. The layers of percussion that make up this pulse offer ample amounts of ear candy and intrigue. Underneath, the bass punctuates this beat with its warm tones, whilst acoustic guitar wraps around with a rippling, meditative quality.

One of the highlights of the track includes the orchestrated elements that melodically dance throughout. The strings weave an intricate and vibrantly sense of sophistication. Before the song pushes into the satisfying crescendo, a delightfully expressive electric guitar solo soars over the arrangement– its feel makes me want to draw comparisons to David Bowie. The inclusion of this element underlines the track’s creativity and provides a gorgeous, contrasting texture.

The vocals are just as melodic and ornate as the underlying composition. Rich in storytelling, vulnerability, and harmony, the performance truly makes the track feel cohesive. Cloudbelly describe the meaning behind the lyrics: “’If You Want’ is an impassioned conversation between two voices residing in the same body, reckoning with a tendency to run from the things you want the most.”

Cloudbelly’s “If You Want“ is a truly special track. The song has a striking sense of polish and refinement, which your ears will find hard to resist.
