Christian Alexander - “Circles”
From Preston, England, singer-songwriter Christian Alexander arrives on the blog with “Circles,” the third single from his new EP.
“Circles” begins with some energetically strummed acoustic guitar, a touch more upbeat than our usual brand of indie, but the exquisite lo-fi vibe wins our immediate attention. The vocal performance is next to appear, imbuing the production with a soft, dreamy, and multilayered delivery that has just enough Elliott Smith-ness to completely win us over.
For the most part, the arrangement is sparsely populated, especially during the verses, but then, gradually, we hear the delicate notes of a piano, some textures of horns, and swells of harmonica. A kick drum falls into place to support a remarkably catchy melody from the lead guitar, as lyrics explore the “chaotic lives of imaginary friends,” a subject matter that we have never before seen/ heard.
“Circles” is one of those rare tunes that resides in the spaces between multiple genres, from indie folk to pop, picking up passengers with stops at lo-fi and slacker rock. As energetic as it might be, we’ve found it remarkably chill and hope to hear much more from Christian Alexander. You can connect with the artist here: Bandcamp | Spotify | Instagram
