CAROUSELS - “City Surround Me”

Friends, you may recall Denmark-based multi-instrumentalist Matthew Walko, aka CAROUSELS, gracing the pages of our blog with his previous psychedelic-tinged pop-rock releases. We are very pleased to inform you that Walko has returned to us with a new single: the energetic, genre-melding “City Surround Me.”

None of the real estate within the track’s three-minute duration is put to waste, immediately beginning with a pulsing, full-band production. From its fuzzy, garage rock-imbued guitar riffing, to its ‘90s-era acid house rhythm section, listeners from across the musical universe are bound to find something they love within this banger.

The verses of “City Surround Me” are comprised by a hard-hitting bass line and resonating beat, peeling away the gritty guitar layers in order for the vocal to shine. Warm distortion lines the walls of Walko’s delivery as he wrestles with “the existential spiral and fear of modern life while finding escape and solace within the embrace of the city.”

The bouts of relentless indie-rock power are, at times, surrendered for more of a piano-driven, mellifluous aural experience. All of this ultimately culminates in a song that you need to hear immediately. Fans of Blur, Arctic Monkeys, and  Foals are going to feel right at home with “City Surround Me,” and we hope that this means a new record from CAROUSELS is on the horizon.
