Bubble Tea and Cigarettes - “Emi”

Kat and Andi, aka Bubble Tea and Cigarettes, live in LA and make music in their bedroom. And it is with great pleasure that we feature their latest dreamy release: “Emi.”

This tune begins with some remarkably reverberating guitar, immediately insinuating that the journey will be transcending and cinematic. A pulsating kick drum fades into the soundscape, propelling the arrangement forward and providing a distinct heartbeat to the ethereal production.

The sound is rounded out by some bass and the gradual addition of some synthy artifacts, as well as ghostly layers of choral vocals that subtly swirl and churn throughout the sonic space. The main vocal is somewhat reminiscent of both Thom Yorke and april june, elegantly and dreamily exploring the idea of falling for someone with different worldviews than your own.

Emi” is the kind of song that will stir your emotions– whether you get lost in its heavenly tones or go spiraling through its lines of lyrics, you are bound to come out the other end a different version of yourself.

And for those of you looking for some visual stimulation to go along with your listening pleasure, feast your eyes on the video for “Emi:”

If you’re in the Los Angeles or San Francisco areas, do not miss the opportunity to catch Bubble Tea and Cigarettes on stage:
