Philadelphia-based singer-songwriter Brittany Ann Tranbaugh has once again captivated us with her brand of folk music upon the release of a new single: “Bushwick.”

This tune sounds like it was born in a state-of-the-art recording studio, amidst the stacks of yesteryear’s analogue outboard gear. There is a distinct thickness to the sound of the acoustic guitar as it traverses the sonic space, almost as though you’ve stumbled across a time capsule from the late ‘60s. “Bushwick” bears the kind of production that immediately grabs hold of your attention, filling your heart with a warm shot of nostalgia.

And then Tranbaugh’s vocal emerges, beholding a fervent authenticity that perfectly matches the rest of the production. Listeners shall find it exceptionally easy to lose themselves amidst her folksy vibrato and will likely draw comparisons to that of Anaïs Mitchell and Adrianne Lenker. Tranbaugh has a voice that sounds as though it has been perfected by life experience and, as we listen, we find it entirely unbelievable that she is not yet a household name.

Tranbaugh’s friend and collaborator Joe Plowman is responsible for the deep notes from the bass that add weight to the arrangement, as well as the gentle vocal harmony that will reward patient listeners. Tranbaugh recorded “Bushwick” in Los Angeles, where she was also able to enlist Grammy winner Tyler Chester on guitar and piano duties. The result is a warm and robust sound that will truly delight any fan of raw and authentic folk music.
