beach novels - “Hold My Head” & “Backspace”

If you want a steady beat, a tasty bass line, and a dash of synth, look no further than “Hold My Head,” the latest single from beach novels. What we have here, fellow humans, is music that adds a soundtrack to your participation in escaping from the everyday, mundane perils of being a three dimensional being– and it’s absolutely no surprise that beach novels describes their creations as “late night drive music.”

At first listen, you are bound to notice that sweet ‘80s nostalgia, almost reminiscent with something from Simple Minds. But don’t be fooled by this because there is plenty of 2023 magic in this thing, as you will see as soon as the vocals begin. While we are not overly familiar with the genre, the careful listener might be able to draw some comparisons to Michigander, Dayglow, or even The 1975. The hook is quite magnificent and destined to be your next ear worm– if not lyrically, then definitely melodically.

And if you listen to “Hold My Head” and don’t quite get your fill– fear not! beach novels also has “Backspace,” a slower rocker with hints of Oasis-esque guitar licks intermingling with the vocals on the verse. The same singing style is used here, drenched again in a glorious sheen of reverb. beach novels definitely seems to have found a niche and we hope the next batch of singles are all cooked inside of this same oven.

Both of these tracks are available on all DSP’s, as well as beach novels’ Bandcamp page. We know you’re busy, so here’s some shortcuts for you:
