Astral Bakers - “Why”

France-based indie rock band Astral Bakers mark the release of their new LP, The Whole Story, with the richly vibrant sounds of a new single, “Why.”

We last heard from the quartet about a month ago, upon the release of “Beautiful Everything,” and we are very pleased to announce that its energy and craftsmanship was not some sort of fluke. “Why” encompasses many of the same traits that initially led to us falling in love with their diverse and warmly nostalgic sound.

Why” opens up to a soft and meditative display of guitar chords, with an exquisite vocal performance from lead singer Sage, aka Ambroise Willaume, hovering over the top. Sage’s voice effortlessly ebbs and flows, breaking into falsetto and back down again, sure to enchant those lucky enough to have pressed the play button.

At about forty-five seconds into “Why,” the rest of the band appears, permeating the soundscape with a whimsically lo-fi and vintage-tinged sound that has truly left us spellbound. It is quite obvious that Astral Bakers take the recording process as seriously as their songwriting, for there is a vibe here that typically only exists in the analogue sounds of yesteryear.

Filled with dynamic twists and turns, you are bound to find something new to love inside of “Why” with each new listen. From the effected guitar and raw vocals, to the creamy glue that binds the rhythm section, we herby pledge our eternal fanhood to Astral Bakers. And for you to do the same, you need only let this fantastic track enter your ears.

Please be warned that once you get a taste of Why,” you will likely wish to consume the rest of The Whole Story. It is, therefore, our privilege to make it extremely easy for you to do so:
