Antoni - “Meteor Swarm”

Coming at you from the German forest town of Ilmenau, Antoni delivers the raw and ethereal sounds of her latest single, “Meteor Swarm.”

This one begins straightaway with a delightfully plucked acoustic guitar and Antoni’s inviting vocal, delivering lyrics that cause us to take pause and consider the vastness of nature, existence, and the universe itself. And because we cannot refuse a good song that inspires introspection, we immediately said yes to this one.

Other than the occasional, heavenly vocal harmony, “Meteor Swarm” remains relatively sparse over the first verse, leaving plenty of room in your headphones to scroll through your emotions. At this point, the song is so raw that it feels as if Antoni is performing it right beside you, which, if you read our blog, you’ll know is one of our favorite qualities when it comes to folk music.

A tranquil synth emerges, offering a sense of sonic depth and atmosphere, and rightfully expanding the soundscape. Soft piano keys punctuate the refrain before an electronically-charged beat arrives, elevating the track from its stripped-back, former self. Swells of synth grow and churn within the underbelly of the performance, ultimately rising before dissolving into another verse.

The final refrain is just as barebones as the song’s inception and “Meteor Swarm” is the kind of track that begs to be played again. We imagine it will fit perfectly inside of the playlists you utilize for processing the day in an attempt to become yourself again after the nine-to-five grind.

Meteor Swarm” will likely leave you wanting more, so fill your cup with Antoni’s back catalogue, including the previously released “New Arpeggio” and the lovely and more recent “Judith,” both boasting a robust arrangement that will surely win you over as a fan.
