Adam Spry - “Rotten Mausoleum”

Adam Spry is a songwriter based out of San Francisco, serving up some classic sounds with his new single, “Rotten Mausoleum.”

Vocally, Spry has a similar sound to Paul McCartney with an American accent, in my opinion. And the song’s music definitely has a Macca flavour to me. This song may have easily been taken from an early Wings album, ticking all those classic boxes. The guitar tones give the song an immediate throwback 1970s feel with some really great guitar licks. The main riff is effectively reinforced by doubled guitars that roll over the frequent breaks. The sections of the song are particularly beautifully punctuated by thumping rock percussion, and the music has a feeling of coasting swagger about it, wonderfully complemented by its backing vocals.

The artist says: "Walking through the streets of Rome, I kept picturing an emperor who “went into the family business” so to speak. He just wanted to play the lute and study philosophy with his friends. Sick and tired of the class disparity around him, he decided to have the old statues torn down. He was of course killed and replaced with someone who would rule with an iron fist and was subsequently erased from history. This is where “Rotten Mausoleum” was born.”

This is good work… so if you have Macca’s albums, maybe you should pick up Adam Spry’s debut, Slightly Off Kilter, coming out March 24th.
