Rose Hotel - “Fruit Tree”

Atlanta-based singer-songwriter Jordan Reynolds, aka Rose Hotel, returns to the blog with “Fruit Tree,” a mystifying slice of sonic pie designed for fans of David Lynch.

Fruit Tree” offers a fairly significant dose of psychedelia, opening with a brief fade-in before a guitar sends a signal that ignites the rhythm section. A layer of swirling synth rises and descends amidst the song’s gentle pace, effectively providing a dreamy, otherworldly aspect to this genre-defying tune.

Reynolds’ vocal performance is at the heart of “Fruit Tree,” with a delivery that conjures the vibes of Weyes Blood and Cate Le Bon; it is powerful, emotionally-charged, and authentically delivered, nailing our niche for a dark and gritty presentation. A soft harmony has also been deployed in order to ensure your complete and total listening satisfaction.

The refrain brings about a foreboding flavor of enchanting vocal layers, wrapped within a ghostly dissonance and a luscious change in rhythmic pulse. We would not be surprised if it contained a spell that makes the listener play “Fruit Tree” in a constant loop, because that’s exactly what we’ve been doing.

The song’s structure is quite simple, but the amount of dynamic variation it contains allows it to become a near theatrical production, with twists and turns that have left us completely enchanted. “Fruit Tree” is a haunting, mesmerizing journey that will ultimately end with you becoming an eternal fan of Rose Hotel.

About “Fruit Tree,” Reynolds adds, “I wanted to personify the temptation of success in music as something sensual and lusted over, which brought up the image of the forbidden fruit. The lyrics are written from the perspective of the Fruit Tree, but with the tantalizing voice of an alluring woman. Sort of a 'Be Careful What You Wish For' tune."

Fruit Tree” comes from Rose Hotel’s forthcoming LP, A Pawn Surrender, which will be available on June 7. And while you all eagerly await its release, feel free to connect with her online:  Instagram | Spotify | Facebook | Bandcamp | Tour
