Niamh Regan - “Nice”

Ireland-based singer-songwriter Niamh Regan is back on the blog with “Nice,” the latest release from her forthcoming album, Come As You Are.

A pulsating, electronically-driven rhythm sets the heartbeat for “Nice,” with Regan promptly beginning her emotive and raw vocal performance. Digital artifacts line the production, lending the song some modern flair, yet it still clings tightly to the realm of indie folk music.

The gloriously over-driven, vintage flavor of an electric bass arrives as Regan reaches into her divine upper register. Lo-fi percussive elements find their place in the arrangement via the simplicity of finger snaps, as the sonic space is given ambience through the warm tones of electric piano.

Nice” permeates an air of darkness akin to PJ Harvey, which is one of the reasons we knew that we had to feature it. Of course, once you catch an earful of Regan’s vocal, you will understand how it is useless to try and resist her craft, as there is something distinctly authentic about the method in which she delivers every word.

As the song reaches its crescendo, the snaps are replaced with the power of a snare drum, but “Nice” is a dreamlike, ethereally-charged reminder to get out of your own way. And between its dark atmosphere, the delicious bass line, and Regan’s exquisite vocal performance, we have a feeling you’ll love it just as much as we do.

Niamh Regan’s sophomore LP, Come As You Are, is slated to hit the airwaves on May 31, via Faction Records. You can connect with her by clicking one (or all) of these links: Spotify | Apple Music | Instagram | Bandcamp | Facebook
