Carey Clayton - “Concentric Circles”

Los Angeles-based Carey Clayton has just released the compelling experimental alternative rock track, “Concentric Circles.”

This song is a sonic tapestry that ebbs and flows vividly. Opening to guitar, the track quickly adorns layers in a kaleidoscopic fashion, whether it is the ambient electric guitar lines, shimmering synths, or touches of piano. “Concentric Circles“ has strong hints of Radiohead but also other bands such as Mansun.

Propelling the track forward, the percussion exquisitely provides a complex sense of syncopated rhythmic drive. Clayton allows the nuances and textures to be thoroughly enjoyed as they voluptuously carry “Concentric Circles“ forward. He only adds bass lines over key areas in order to give a heightened sense of rhythmic tension and interest.

A lush, experimental and surreal atmosphere is also created through the use of backwards sounds that are splashed across the composition. These elements, when coupled with the generous use of reverb and echo, help make “Concentric Circles“ wonderfully immersive, drawing you into the groove and leaving a sense of reflective mystery.

The nuanced and wistful vocal of Clayton weaves seamlessly with the music whilst imbuing a prolific sense of meaning and depth. The layering and harmonies are well-executed, adding a richness and depth to the performance which is delectable.

On the track Clayton adds: “‘Concentric Circles’ is about coming to terms with one’s own futile seeming efforts. It describes the experience of someone trying so hard to change something in their life but realising it all just continues on with or without them, and that the world can be a beautiful harmony when we realise, we’re all just spinning in concentric circles.”

Concentric Circles” brilliantly demonstrates the prowess of Carey Clayton as a songwriter and musician. If you have a penchant for innovative and melodically experimental tracks, this one is for you.
